About Us2009 Global Dance Award

The Global Dance Award is open to dancers aged 15 years and over, who are of non professional status (those who earn less than 50% of their income through dance related employment), registered as senior dancers at 2009 gdc - global dance convention®.

The award is designed to give one young Australian dancer the opportunity to travel and learn from the best teachers and choreographers the industry has to offer.

The recipient will receive one return economy airfare to Los Angeles, a class pass to Edge Performing Arts Center and spending money. The total value of the prize is $5000.

One runner up will receive $1000 cash.

Heats will take place in Sydney during the gdc - global dance convention® , with the Grand Final taking place on the final day of the Sydney convention.

Entry Procedure

Entry is by video* submission only and all entries must be received by the 3rd April 2009 for competition submission. All entries received after this date will not be accepted and their video will be forfeited.

An entry fee of $25 must accompany the video submission. Entrants must be registered for gdc - global dance convention® , and the entry fee is additional to the workshop registration fee.

Studio entries can be submitted by registering multiple dancers on the one entry form and sending one video tape.

All entries will be separated by city and viewed for judging by our panel of five US choreographers prior to the commencement of the Global Dance Convention.

Selection Procedure

From the submitted videos, up to 12 finalists will be selected to present their solo piece during the second day conclusion of the Sydney Convention, and up to six finalists will be chosen to compete in the Grand Final.

Grand Final

Grand Final performances will take place during the closing ceremony of the Sydney Global Dance Convention presenting to a live audience.

One dancer will be presented* the runner up prize and one will be presented* the Global Dance Award.

* All vouchers, tickets, passes, cheques and cash as well as full conditions of the award will be explained to the recipient and chaperone following the event.

 

Performance Criteria

Previous Global Dance Award prize winners, of any value, are ineligible from entering this year.

Recorded solos are to strictly be no longer than 3 minutes duration.

Only one solo per dancer is allowed with no restrictions applying to the style of dance entered.

Solos are to be rehearsed prior to the convention; there is no time reserved for rehearsals during the convention.

Costumes are not required however tidy attire is recommended.

 

Judging Process

Entrants will be judged on many areas of their performance including technique and execution, presentation of performance, appearance and potential of the performer.

OffBeat Productions PTY LTD reserve the right of refusal and the judges' decision is final. There will be no forum for a protest.
